Energy Saving Certificates (CAES): An Opportunity for Companies and Individuals

Energy Saving Certificates (ESCs) are a financial instrument that certifies the final energy savings obtained after the implementation of energy efficiency measures. Each EEC represents one kilowatt hour (kWh) saved and can be traded on the EEC market.

How Long Does It Take to Get a CAE?

Obviously, it depends on several factors, such as the efficiency of the Administration and the diligence of the advisor you hire, the complexity and size of the installation, and the industry. However, a reasonable time frame could be between two and four months.

Who Can Apply for It?

It can be applied for by obligated parties and delegated parties. Who is who?

• Obligated parties: Companies that carry out certain energy activities.
• Delegated parties: Companies authorized to manage the process on behalf of obligated parties.

What Milestones Are Required to Apply for a CAE?

We can summarize it in 4 steps:

1. Carry out an energy improvement action: This can be a renovation, installation of efficient equipment, etc.
2. Obtain a verification report: An energy verifier will evaluate the action and issue a report certifying the energy savings achieved.
3. Submit the application: You must do this through the electronic platform of the CAE System, attaching all the required documentation.
4. Wait for the resolution: The autonomous manager will analyze your application and issue the corresponding CAEs if approved.

What Documentation Is Necessary?

• Completed application.
• Verification report.
• Documentation proving the action taken.
